About the design
There is a particularly lovely story behind Moomin Tree Hug.
The illustration comes from Tove Jansson's Comet in Moominland, first published in 1946. The story follows Moomintroll and his friends as they discover that a comet is heading towards their beloved Moominvalley and hurry home before it arrives.
At one point, Moomintroll pauses to think about everything in the natural world that he loves – the forest and sea, rain and wind, sunshine, grass and moss – and how impossible it would be to imagine life without them. Jansson's accompanying illustration shows him peacefully embracing the trunk of a birch tree.
